Life Legacy

LaVerne D. Wilson, 72, Neosho, died Jan. 15, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, following a rapid decline of health. 
LaVerne was born Aug. 8, 1941 in Burlington, IA and moved to Neosho in 2008 from Plainview, TX. He graduated from Southern Nazarene University with a Master’s degree in Theology and has been a pastor of the Nazarene Church for 34 years and spent 10 years as a prison chaplain at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Plainville, before moving to Neosho. LaVerne served as Newton County ARES Coordinator; Red Cross DAT team; a volunteer foster parent for Faithful Friends Animal Advocates and was very active in Amateur Radio Services. He was an active member of the Neosho Church of the Nazarene. LaVerne and 
Ruth ‘LaVelle’ Bickford were married on June 28, 1963 in Security, CO and LaVelle survives of the home. Other survivors include four children, Brad Wilson and Marla Schmidt, Neosho; Steve Wilson and wife, Christy, Pea Ridge, AR; Brian Wilson and wife, Cynthia, Harlingen, TX and Cindy Dupre and husband, Norman, Neosho; one sister, Kathleen White and husband, Joel, Clinton, ILL; 17 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

W5TQL - JOHN RECTOR ALLEN, Jr.

On Thursday, February 13, 2014, a little bit of sunshine left this world that will add joy to whatever world comes after this one.

John Rector Allen, Jr. was born in Austin, Texas on May 12, 1932.  He was a loving man who spread cheer wherever he went, a mischievous little dickens (in the very nicest possible sense of the term) with an irrepressible twinkle in his eye and a wonderful smile, a man who made lives happier because of his presence in them.  He was a true gentleman of the old school.

Johnny was a member of the marching band at Austin High School.  He attended the University of Texas where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order.  His veins ran with the true Orange Blood of a UT man.  At some time during his high school years Johnny developed an interest in amateur radio and he was active in the hobby for the rest of his life.  His call sign was W5TQL.  For most of his business career he was employed by Leif Johnson Ford, first as a salesman then spending many years as sales manager.

Mourning him are Carol, his wife of 24 years; his son John Travis (Jack) Allen and wife Joan; daughter Katherine Sederholm and her children; stepdaughter Andrea Sellers, her husband Larry and their children.

WA4FNY - BILLY COX

Billy Dean Cox, age 78, of Morristown, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 19, 2014. He was a member of Lakemoore Church of God. Billy was a 1954 graduate of Morristown High School and was active in the alumni group. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was an avid amateur radio operator using the call letters WA4FNY and was retired from Burroughs Corporation and Magnavox. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mildred Cox of Morristown. Billy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Walker Cox; daughter, Deana (Kirk) Triemer of Atlanta GA; son, Col. James N. (Chrysta) Cox of Washington DC; grandchildren, Courtney Triemer (Jim) Darling, Garrett Cox, Lyndsey Cox, Ethan Cox; great-grandchildren, Molly Marie Darling; brother, Bud Cox of Morristown; and Billy's nephew, Mark Cox who has been a special blessing to the family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 22nd, at 5:00 p.m. at Lakemoore Church of God. Rev. Robert Carpenter will officiate. The TN Army National Guard will render military honors following the funeral service. Graveside services will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Graceland Memorial Park in Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 3 – 5:00 p.m. at the church prior to the services. Stubblefield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

OTIS GENE DUHON --  KB5RNO

October 25, 1942 - July 21, 2014

Otis Gene Duhon, 71, of Orange, passed away on July 21, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.

Born in Orange, Texas, on October 25, 1942, he was the son of Otha Duhon and Lois (Sarver) Duhon. Otis served in the U. S. Air Force from 1961-1968 and was an electrical technician for every Apollo Mission to the moon. He then became an air conditioning service man and felt that keeping people cool in Southeast Texas was just as important as his work for the Apollo Missions. Otis also loved to fish and hunt. He was loved by all his family and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Otha Duhon; brother, Joe A. Duhon; and his son, Randy Duhon.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Maureen Moak Duhon of Orange, his mother, Lois Duhon of Beaumont; son Richard Duhon of Hartburg; sisters, Gloria Graves of Beaumont, Juanita McDonald of Baytown, and Patricia Lewallen of Highlands; and his aunt Juanita Toronjo of Orange.

Cremation will be under the direction of Claybar Haven of Rest.

W5ZOZ - Roy Maurice Costolow 
October 21, 1920 - August 9, 2014

In loving memory of Roy Maurice Costolow, who died peacefully on August 9th. He was a retired pharmacist. He was born in Paduka, Arkansas but spent his childhood in Spur, Texas. He married Mary Novotny, who he met in college and they celebrated 71 years of marriage this year.
He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in pharmacy from the University of Texas in 1943. He was the recipient of “Citation of Achievement” from the Texas state board of Pharmacy for faithfully completing 50 years of devoted service and making meaningful contributions to the profession of pharmacy.
His hobbies included Amateur Radio operator /technician licensed with the FCC since 1953. He was a member of the “Old Old Timers” Amateur Radio Club and “Quarter Century Wireless Association”.
He loved fishing and making rods and reels for himself and others.
He had a special talent for designing and flying model airplanes.
His values were enjoying a simple life which included loving his wife Mary, spending time with his small brown Chihuahua, Willie, talking on his Hamm radio with friends every morning and visiting with his extended family of nieces and nephews. He especially enjoyed the homemade cakes his sister in law Henrietta brought to his home often.
We will miss his wonderful stories and his favorite jokes.
He was lovingly cared for at his home the last 3 years by Beatrice Lawong. He bragged she was a very good cook and especially enjoyed his Friday dinner which was her special pancakes. He felt so lucky to spend his time in his den watching tv and playing solitaire. His favorite deck of cards were worn very thin.
He is preceded in death by his father Marcus H Costolow and his mother Anna Pearl Miller Costolow.
He is survived by his wife Mary Costolow, brother John Joe Costolow Pasadena,TX, sister in laws Francis Novotny, Corsicana,TX, Henrietta Novotny, Ennis, TX, and Evelyn Novotny, Waxahachie, TX, and lots of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held August 14, 2014 at the Edgewood Cemetery in Lancaster, TX.

K5LVU - Frank B. Ridlon Jr.
March 2, 1933 - July 13, 2017

Frank Burleigh Ridlon Jr. was born at home in Yarmouth, Maine, on March 2, 1933, at the end of the Great Depression. He was the second of three sons and one daughter born to Frank "Burleigh" Ridlon and Elvina DeRoche Ridlon. His family called him "Brother"; folks in town soon knew him as Popeye. He spent most of his free time hanging out along the Royal River, swimming, fishing, skating, and exploring. His grandfather was a significant influence in his life. Frank was usually accompanied by his dog Dopey, who would pull his sled over the snow in winter. His memories include hunting and fishing trips with his dad and uncle, often to the Rangely Lakes area.

Frank attended North Yarmouth Academy, a private prep school, because the town had no public high school and so paid for local students to attend. He graduated in 1951; the next day he and four buddies enlisted in the service. Frank joined the Air Force, attended Air Force Technical School at Keesler AFB in Mississippi, and became an airborne radio operator as part of the Strategic Air Command, flying air refueling missions aboard KC-97s. He spent time at Randolph Field in San Antonio, TX; March AFB in Riverside, CA, and Murphy Dome in Alaska, among other sites. He was honorably discharged in 1960. He was married in 1953, and had three children, David, Donna, and Debbie. In 1959, while stationed in Mississippi, Frank obtained his Amateur Radio Operator license, and as K1LVU, became an active "ham radio" operator.

Frank worked on electronic test equipment for Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles, and spent 1 ½ years on field assignment in Idaho on the Titan missile project. After his first marriage ended, he remarried, and added two daughters, Anne and Jennifer, to his family. He returned to the Riverside, CA area, and over the next 13 years worked as an electronic technician for Bournes, Inc. There he maintained electronic test equipment. During this time, Frank became involved in motorcycle racing at local tracks, often competing with riders 20 years his junior. He raced Flat Track and TT, and participated in the Elsinore Grand Prix. He also cultivated a love for country music, and played bass in a country band, the "So and So's", in local nightclubs.
In 1976, Frank found himself single again. He was introduced to a young kindergarten teacher on a blind date. Eight months later, on October 2, 1976, he and Louise Bensema were married in Pomona, CA, a partnership that was to last 40 years. As he often said, it seemed like he was always starting over, and about this time he began working for Dictaphone Corporation as a field service representative. He traveled around a three-county area servicing dictating and transcribing systems for customers.

Frank and Louise enjoyed the outdoors, and were involved in the local camera club. They took a backpacking class at Riverside City College, and soon began hiking in the Eastern Sierras above Lone Pine. They bought a house in Rancho Cucamonga, and in 1979, their son Brian was born. Frank was to change jobs yet again: in 1979 he went to work as a senior electronic technician for Safetran Systems Corporation, testing and repairing grade crossing predictors and motion sensor equipment on railroads; then in 1985 for Lockheed Aircraft Service Co., where he tested and repaired digital flight data recorders (aka "Black Boxes").

Frank enjoyed taking on new challenges. He had always wanted to fly, so he took lessons to obtain a private pilot's license. After a few flights in light aircraft, he decided to go even lighter, and pursued hang gliding for five years (beginning at age 50). He flew regularly off Crestline in the San Bernardino mountains. At age 55, he enrolled in SCUBA diving lessons, and was an assistant instructor for NAUI classes. He made many dive trips to the Channel Islands off the Southern California coast, and to Ensenada and Cozumel, Mexico.

Frank retired from Lockheed in 1995. He enjoyed traveling on family camping trips, and spending time fishing and boating at an RV campground in Blythe, CA, then later from the family's mountain cabin in Twin Peaks, CA. He and Louise made many trips up the California coastline to Morro Bay to escape the summer heat.

Although a heart attack and other health issues curtailed some of Frank's activities, he continued to ride motorcycles (touring bikes, including a Gold Wing sidecar rig) and go on hiking trips. He climbed to the summit of Mt. Baldy and Mt. Langley, among other peaks. He shared his musical talents singing in the choir at Lincoln Avenue Reformed Church in Pomona, and sang and played bass in the church praise band.

In 2004, Frank and Louise traveled to Cedar Creek, TX, to visit sister Gwen. Louise was nearing retirement after 34 years teaching, and the open spaces and country life of Central Texas immediately appealed to them both. They soon bought a lot in Cedar Creek and made plans to relocate within the next year. It wasn't long before Frank was once again singing in the choir and playing bass in the church praise band at Cedar Creek United Methodist Church. Frank and Louise eventually formed a band, "Cedar Creek Revival", where Frank could croon country tunes to make the ladies swoon!

Learning about their new home was important, so Frank and Louise joined the Lost Pines chapter of the Texas Master Naturalists, and it wasn't long before they were involved in volunteer projects including trail work and maintenance, leading guided hikes, participating in plant and animal surveys, and teaching classes of fifth graders at the local state parks. They enjoyed many camping and birding trips in their new home state. Within the next few years, sons Brian and David and families followed the trail to Texas, and now all live within walking distance of one another. In the last three years, Frank has enjoyed having his children and grandchildren gather from all over the country for family reunions at the "homestead".

Frank was known for his warm smile, quiet confidence, and readiness to help in any situation. He loved life, exploring new experiences, and sharing stories. He loved his family, his animals, and his Lord, and was ready to go when God called him home after a series of health issues.

Frank Burleigh Ridlon, Jr. passed from this life July 13, 2017 at the age of 84. He will be sorely missed, but everyone who knew him would agree that their lives were made richer by spending time with Frank.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Edward and Ronald Ridlon.

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Louise Ridlon; 6 children, David Ridlon and his wife Rhanda, Donna Ridlon Smith, Debbie Walker and her husband Phil, Anne Ridlon, Jennifer Ridlon, Brian R Ridlon and his wife Jennifer; sister, Gwen Ridlon Bunnell and her husband Jerry; 11 grandchildren, Steven, Leila, April, Kristina, Leanne, David, Sierra, Anthony, Cory, Ashley, Kaleigh; 10great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his special friends, Bart (the little lap dog), Miss Brown (the elderly grey and white cat), Tasha (the crazy Siamese rescue cat), Ferdinand (the little black sheep), and two miniature horses, Blue eyed Elaine and Shazaam.

May 29,1924 - July 16, 2017
Ed was 93 years old.

Ed was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on May 29, 1924 to Louis Ernest and Agnes Monica (Mosley) Higganbotham. He grew up in Oklahoma City where he attended school.

In 1942 Ed entered the Army Air Force as a airplane engine mechanic.  During his time in the service; he was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX.  For his serviced he was awarded the World War II Victory  medal, a Good Conduct medal, and an Army Service Ribbon.

In 1943 while on weekend pass; Ed was traveling by bus from Wichita Falls, TX to Oklahoma City, OK.  The bus stopped in Lawton, OK to pick up passengers to take to Marlow, OK.  Several passengers boarded the bus and this is when Ed met the love of his life, Mable Riley.  Mable was on her way from Lawton to Marlow to visit her family. On September 16th, 1944, they married at the Baptist church in Troy, Kansas.  Throughout their 72 years of marriage; they  lived in Kansas, Missouri, Texas, and Oklahoma.   Then in 1964 they settled in Lawton, Oklahoma.

After leaving the Army Air Force in 1946, Ed began college.   In 1953 he  graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the Oklahoma City University.  He was a Certified Public Accountant.  From 1953 to 1956 Ed worked for the Oklahoma Transportation Company.  From 1956 to 1962 he for worked for Halliburton as an accountant.  In 1962 he went to work at Fort Sill for the Federal Government as an auditor.  Ed worked his way up to being the post's chief of accounting, a position he held until his retirement on December 31, 1988.

In his leisure time, Ed was a amateur radio operator who had obtained the highest FCC radio operator license, the amateur extra.  His call sign was N5AUK.  At the age of 19, he joined the national amateur radio organization, the American radio relay league.  When Ed was not on the radio he could be found bicycling.  He was an avid bike rider and enjoyed participating in local road rallies. 
Ed volunteered with the Oklahoma Southern Baptist  Disaster Relief Organization; he also helped prepare taxes for the public free of charge through the AARP tax aide.

Ed is survived by his son, Tom Higganbotham of Magnolia, TX; his daughter, Nancy Ann and son in law,  Billy Paul Eakins of Elgin, OK; his grandchildren, Billie Anne and Bob Whipp of Lawton, OK, Robert and Lisa Eakins of Elgin, OK, Janet and Nick Wiley of Elgin, OK, Clint and Melani Higganbotham of Longmont, CO, and Tara and Eddie Mayes of Magnolia, TX.  He also has 11 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great Great Grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind his dear friend, Erica Messer.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mable; two sisters, Dorothy King and Marie Davis; and two brothers, John Higganbotham and Alfred Higganbotham.

In lieu of flowers; memorial contributions can be made to the Cameron Baptist Church of Lawton, Senior Adult Department.

Nelson Irl Hamilton, age 64, of Corpus Christi, Texas went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 28, 2017.

He was born March 23, 1953 in Uvalde, Texas to Edwin Irl and Helen Morgan Hamilton. He grew up in Crystal City and Carrizo Springs area of Texas.

He retired from Flint Hills Refinery after 35 years of service. He was a certified ham radio operator “KD5HOV”.

His passion was spending time with his family and friends. He loved UT Football, fishing, hunting, golfing, BBQ, and kayaking. He loved being outdoors and spending time on the water.  He was always the life of the party and be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a cousin, Johnny Flanagan.

He is survived by his loving companion, Sandra Cleveland; children, Nih Hamilton, Morgan (Jim) Foucar and Sandra’s children (whom he thought of his own), Ashley Cleveland, Travis Cleveland, Tucker Cleveland, Marissa Cleveland;

brother, Mark Hamilton; sister, Margaret Hamilton and Elaine Hamilton; grandchildren, Victoria Hamilton, Nih Hamilton, Devon Hamilton, Avery Foucar and Rowan Foucar.

Memorial Services will be conducted on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Msgr. Michael Howell officiating.

An Irish wake will be held following the services at 9862 Daisy Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410.

September 29, 1937 - December 15, 2017

Alton John Feeney, age 80 passed away in a San Antonio hospital December 15, 2017.

He was born September 29, 1937 in Biddeford, Maine to Joseph and Edith Fogg Feeney. He served his country honorably for over three years in the United States Navy. He married Jean Mary Curtis on May 29, 1958. They were long time residents of Bandera, Texas.

Alton was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Sharon Farless and his wife of over fifty eight years Jean.

He is survived by his daughters Patricia Huber, Sheila Sandford and Michelle Halford. Also surviving are numerousgrandchildren and great grandchildren, extended family members and many friends.

Alton will be laid to rest with his wife Jean at a later date at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Maine.

All are invited to attend a memorial visitation at Grimes Funeral Chapels of Bandera on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM

James Wallace Robbins - N5OUJ 
20 September 1924 - 15 January 2018

Passed away in Taylor, Texas, on January 15, 2018. He was a faithful Christian all of his life, being a member of the Church of Christ, first at Hyde Park in Austin and recently, at the Highway 95 congregation in Taylor.

James was born in Killeen, Texas on September 20, 1924, to James Hobart and Edith Blanche Hall Robbins, the eldest of seven children. He grew up in Central Texas moving from farm to farm where his father found work and his mother was a housewife. He often attended small rural schools. He never was married and was inducted into the military at the age of 19 during World War II. He entered the Medical Corps in the United States Army and served in hospitals in England, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg. After returning to the United States, he soon joined the family and eventually moved with the family to Killeen, Texas, following the death of his father in 1948.

In Killeen, he sold insurance for a while, then moved to Austin where he obtained work in the health field at the State Hospital. He retired from the Texas State School for Mental Health and Mental Retardation after many years of service. He was an avid Amateur Radio operator, being active in local radio clubs in Travis and Williamson Counties with the call sign N5OUJ. He often referred to his call sign as “Old Uncle James” and was known by that name by his buddies. He also participated in the central Texas Sky Warn program.

James was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Felton T. Robbins, Ralph Edwin Robbins, and Allard Robbins and is survived by one brother and two sisters, Dalton O. Robbins of Lewisville, Alma Ford of Hutto, and Fay Caballero of Dallas. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Hwy. 95 Church of Christ, Cherokee Childrens Home, or local Amateur Radio Clubs.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2017 at the Hwy. 95 Church of Christ in Taylor.

Funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m.

Graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.

George Carroll Johnson, III age 90, of Douglassville, Texas went to be with the Lord Monday, August 06, 2018 at his residence.

George was born August 18, 1927 in Prairie Lea, Texas to George Johnson, Jr. and wife Winnie. He was retired from Red River Army Depot; served in the United States Navy during World War II; was a member of Douglassville Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for over 30 years; and was also a member of Amateur Radio Cass County. He enjoyed spending time with his family doing all sorts of outdoor activities; was a Ham Radio Operator; loved talking about politics; he also enjoyed working crosswords, Sudoku, and any other kind of puzzle he could get his hands on. He was preceded in death by his wives, Effie Johnson, Penny Johnson, Sandra Johnson, Ella Bates; two brothers, Charles Ray Johnson, Billy Pat Johnson; and his parents.

Every day of his life he continued learning and teaching. He was a very spiritual man loving God and his fellow man.

He is survived by two daughters, Vicki Gamez of Douglassville, Texas, Susan Lykins and husband John Wilson of Douglassville, Texas; son, George Carroll “Pete” Johnson of San Francisco, California; three step-daughters, Heidi, Linda, Bobbie Lou; a step-son, Lee; four grandchildren, Michelle, Bob, Justin, Selena; ten great-grandchildren, Sam, Zoe, London, Summer, Mila Chloe, Jameson, Karen, Alyssa, Emilio; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Douglassville Baptist Church, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service, with Pete Johnson and Bro. Allen Weaver officiating.

Visitation will be Friday, August 10, 2018 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Hanner Funeral Service.

Interment will be in Douglassville Cemetery.

She was born January 18, 1952 in Denton, Texas to Paul Lester Womack and Sarah Elizabeth Layton Womack. Carolyn was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lewisville and taught music.

She is survived by her sister, Ann Lee.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Old Hall Cemetery in Lewisville. The family requests memorial contributions to be made to Northview Baptist Church Building Fund.

"This is the hardest thing I will write. Carolyn Womack my beloved sister passed away this morning at 5am. She fell asleep last night and woke up in her Heavenly home. She fought a hard battle with cancer but the Lord knows what is best. I wish everyone could have known her like I did. She was funny, serious, a lover of music, avid fan of ham radio. She loved her facebook friends and I know she would want me to tell you. The most important thing she would want me to tell you is that there is a Savior who will be with you in life and death, and she has now seen Him face to face."

James William Horton (Jim), 74, of Lewisville passed away on March 16, 2020. He was born on March 18, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan (Highland Park) to Kenneth Horton and Mina Chavey Horton. He grew up in Gladwin, Michigan and graduated from Gladwin High School in 1964. He was drafted in the Army in 1965 serving in the Vietnam War until 1967, with Honorable Discharge in 1971. In May of 1967, he moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and he attended Midwestern State University. This is where he met the love of his life, Sherry, in English class. He graduated from DeVry University. Jim and Sherry began their journey through life on April 12, 1968. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church Lewisville and “In His Grace” Adult Bible Study. His love and gifting of electronics landed them in Grapevine before moving to Lewisville where he went to work at Schneider Electric located in Carrollton in 1989. He was a National Accounts Manager in the Buildings Business Department. He retired from there in 2011 then returned until 2014. Jim had a love for Ham Radio and for the Lewisville Amateur Radio Association. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Robert (Bob) and Wayne Horton, and sister Sandra Palm. He is survived by his wife, Sherry; his children James and his wife Robyn of Lewisville, Texas; Jodie Horton Johnson of Lewisville, Texas; his grandchildren; Haylee and Hayden Horton, Maddisyn and Maxwell Johnson. He is also survived by his sibling; Carol Ann Guillory of La Porte, Texas and many nieces and nephews. K5KBV - Charles "Ed" Krizan
May 1, 1940 - December 16, 2020

Charles Edwin Krizan, 80, of Amarillo passed away on December 16, 2020. There will be a viewing at Memorial Park Chapel located at 6969 E. I-40 on Sunday, December 20, 2020 from 12pm-5pm and a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday, December 21, 2020 at 2:00pm with Cecil Burch officiating.

Charles was born in Amarillo, Texas on May 1, 1940 to Edwin and Katherine Krizan. He married his wife Marrion on July 28, 1959 and they were married 61 ½ years. Charles was a dedicated Christian and attended North Amarillo Church of Christ. He made his career in the Navy and retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after 23 years of service. Charles had a passion for talking with people all over the world on his ham radio and his radio handle was K5KBV. He also enjoyed fishing with his grandkids and taking them on trips, helping his grandson work on his race cars, and decorating his house for Christmas every year even winning for “most decorated house”. Charles was a devoted man of God and traveled to several foreign countries as a missionary and touched people’s hearts and lives wherever he went.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kelly, one sister, and two brothers.

He is survived by his wife Marrion of 61 years, his son Joseph and wife Stacy, seven grandchildren: Kenzey and husband Erik, Justin, Jowell, Braeden, Chance, Amber and husband Tyler, and Jenna; and six great-grandchildren: Leif, Kyleigh, Kelby, Stetson, Bowen, and Talan.

KF5KOE - JERRY W KIDWELL, SR

Jerry, KF5KOE,  became a SK 9/20/21 2020.

Jerry Wayne Kidwell (74), a proud Vietnam War veteran and longtime resident of Taylor, Texas, passed away while surrounded by family at his home on September 20, 2021. The third of Edna (Armstrong) and Paul Kidwell’s eleven children, Jerry was born in Kokomo, Indiana in 1947. Jerry enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and was stationed in Sóc Trăng, Vietnam, where he served as a MSQ73 Control Rig operator and a door gunner for a Medevac unit. He honorably discharged from the Army in 1969 with the rank of Sergeant First Class and was decorated with a marksmanship (rifle) badge, the Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze service stars, the National Defense Service Medal, and a Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

In December1968, Jerry married his soulmate Mary Ines Rivera, and he was a loving father to their three children, Johnathan, Jerry Jr. “Checho,” and Diana. A strong and devoted family man who worked tirelessly to provide for his family, Jerry was an equipment operator at Alcoa in Rockdale for thirty-three years, until his retirement in 2002. Jerry also served in the Texas State Guard as an MP from 1992 through 1995 and was an active member of the Taylor, Texas VFW Post 4476. He was an avid HAM radio operator and spent many happy hours calling the Texas Traffic Net under callsign KF5KOE. In his spare time, he also enjoyed fishing, two-stepping, welding, metal detecting, and tinkering with anything mechanical, and he delighted in driving fast cars and riding motorcycles. As a man of deep faith, Jerry and his family have been longstanding members of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church.

In addition to being survived by his mother Edna and his wife Mary, Jerry (affectionately known as “Papo”) leaves behind siblings Jack Kidwell, John Kidwell, Judy Hatmaker, Joy Williams, Julie Pickett, Jeff Kidwell, James Kidwell, and Joel Kidwell; children Johnathan (Chris) Kidwell, Jerry Jr. “Checho” (Michelle) Kidwell, and Diana (Ben) Sanchez; grandchildren, Maegan (Danny) Cranston, Morgan Kidwell, Toby Kidwell, Tanner Kidwell, James Gonzales, Angel Gonzales, Nicole Sanchez, Elizabeth Sanchez, Devon (Spenser) Bogdan, and Amber Mudget; and seven great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Paul, brother Jay Kidwell, sister Jenness Rybolt, and great-granddaughter Ryleigh Cranston.

At Jerry’s request, there will be no funeral or memorial service, but he will be remembered for his many endearing qualities, including his spirited sense of humor, forthrightness, kindness, and generosity. Donations can be made in Jerry’s honor to the American Liver Foundation.
